Here and Now
Likely, you all have noticed a change in faces serving you. Thanks for your patience as the training continues! You may also have seen fleeting glances of new products… we’ll keep them coming but you have to grab them quickly as they are often going to be “one offs”.
When you shop the supermarkets you probably take note of some rising prices. We have been really affected by some over the last six months. Sugar hit a low of about $35 sometime in March. Over the past six weeks there has been an increase each week and it now sits at $54.50! Cocoa rose from $3.15 per pound to $5.82 recently (+84.7%). Walnuts went from $97.87 to $123.17(25.8%), organic rolled oats jumped from $22.39 to $24.43 and unsalted butter rose 15% to $146!
To say the least, the here and now is not a comfortable spot to be in, and we are compelled to raise some of our prices. Fortunately, this IS a nickel and dime (now quarter) kind of business so most increases are a nickel while one is actually 30¢.
Usually, at times like this, we can lower the price on SOMETHING, but not this time. Let’s all hope that there is an opportunity to do so before Spring 2011.
